About Hays State Prison
GDC classifies Hays as a close-security prison for adult male felons. The agency lists it as constructed in 1989, opened in 1990, and designed for 1,101 people. Its mission describes management of some of Georgia's most challenging offenders along with structured programs intended to reduce repeat offending and begin reentry.
These facts describe the institution, not the status of any one person. A capacity figure cannot establish current population or release timing. Hays and Chattooga Custody

A tentative parole month is when the Board expects final review and may set a parole release date. An actual release date records the completed custody change. Hays Credits and Date Changes
GDC's Performance Incentive Credit program can reduce length of stay for eligible offenders who make satisfactory progress in approved education, vocational, treatment, work, and behavior areas. O.C.G.A. § 42-5-101 supplies the state work-incentive-credit authority. PIC is a possible factor, not a promised deduction, and the Board may reconsider eligibility as new information arrives.
Dates may also change after sentence computation, disciplinary action, program completion, a court-ordered reduction, parole denial, postponement, rescission, or a new legal hold. Parole may add a separate reporting duty through DCS. A maximum-sentence discharge may end prison confinement without parole, though another court case or agency hold can still matter. Hays Release Court Records
