This is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm whether someone is in custody, release a person, post bond, or retrieve an official booking record. Contact the agency that holds the record for an authoritative answer.

Choose the Correct Records Office

A Chattooga County release question can belong to the sheriff, a court, GDC, a supervision office, or VINE. Start with the last known type of custody. A person who left Chattooga County Jail has a local sheriff record. A person who left Hays State Prison has a state corrections record. A VINE alert may identify a change, but the originating agency must confirm it.

Public inmate lookup

Use the general office number for sheriff routing and the jail line for facility questions. The research sources do not publish general sheriff lobby hours, so call before an in-person records visit. A person absent from the current-inmate tab may be released, transferred, listed under another name, or outside the live display. The booking-date search with previous inmates included is the better online check for an older local booking.

Sheriff Open-Records Requests

Chattooga County Sheriff's Office Open Records
35 West Washington Street
Summerville, GA 30747
General office: 706-857-3411
Official open-records request form

The form accepts incident details, the event date and time, location, and a description of the records. For a release, identify the person, approximate booking date, arresting agency, and any known booking, warrant, or case number. Ask for the jail commitment and discharge record, release date, discharge authority, and booking photo only if lawfully releasable.

The form cites O.C.G.A. ยง 50-18-71. Charges may include search, retrieval, review, copying, reproduction, mailing, and supervised inspection. An hourly charge based on the lowest-paid qualified full-time employee may begin after the first fifteen minutes. If charges apply, the office provides an estimated cost before production.

GDC Find an Offender
Direct offender search

GDC is the correct source for a state prisoner, including a person held at or released from Hays State Prison. Its search may show charges, facility location, status, a release date, and an offender photograph when available. The GDC search disclaimer directs written verification to Inmate Records and Information. It does not replace the sheriff record for a person held only in the county jail.

The court file can explain why custody ended. Ask for a bond order, sentencing order, probation order, revocation order, dismissal, or final disposition by case number and court. Juvenile, sealed, and other protected records are not generally available through public access.

Parole and Felony Supervision

Georgia DCS LaFayette Field Office
702 E. Villanow Street
LaFayette, GA 30728
Phone: 706-638-5531
Fax: 706-403-2541
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Statewide DCS: 678-783-4337
LaFayette Field Office

The LaFayette office serves Chattooga County for parole and felony probation field supervision. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles makes parole decisions; DCS manages community supervision. Misdemeanor probation supervision does not itself reside with DCS, so the sentencing court and named local provider may be the correct contacts for a misdemeanor case.

Georgia VINE Notifications

Georgia VINE / VINELink
Phone: 1-833-216-6670
Georgia VINELink search and alerts

VINE provides custody-status checks and notification registration for participating sources. A VINE release or transfer alert is a signal from the reporting feed, not the sheriff discharge record or court order. Confirm an alert with the jail, GDC, court, or other agency named in the result.

The following routes summarize where common questions belong:

  • For a released county-jail inmate or formal discharge record, begin with the home page search and records path, then contact the sheriff.
  • For supervision after release, use Parole / Probation and the DCS or State Board contact tied to the record.
  • For a recent local booking, check Released Last 24 Hours, then verify any release field with the sheriff.
  • For a date or notification, compare the Inmate Release Date source with the VINELink Release Check.
  • For a specific site of custody, use the Chattooga County Jail or Hays State Prison facility page listed below.
  • For a sentenced state prisoner, use GDC Find an Offender and write to GDC Inmate Records if the result needs confirmation.
  • For documented federal or immigration custody, use the official BOP Inmate Locator or ICE locator rather than the county jail roster.
